Rosa setate x Rosa rugosa is widely used in the essential oil industry and generates large amounts of waste annually. The purpose of this research is the recycling of bioactive flavonoids from rose waste biomass to develop high-value products. Resin screening and adsorption/desorption dynamic analysis showed that HP20 resin was suitable to purify the flavonoids from R. setate x R. rugosa waste extracts. Under the optimal enrichment process, the product had a 10.7-fold higher purity of flavonoids with a satisfactory recovery of 82.02%. In total, 14 flavonoids were identified in the sample after purification by UHPLC-QTOF-MS. Moreover, the DPPH and ABTS assays revealed that the flavonoids-purified extracts exhibited higher antioxidant activities than the crude extracts. Meanwhile, the purified extracts presented stronger antiproliferative activity against HepG2, Caco-2, MCF-7 and A549 cell lines. The bacteriostatic effects of the purified extracts against four bacteria ( Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) , Escherichia coli (E. coli) , Staphylococcus epidermidis (S. epidermidis) , Pseudomonas aeruginosa (P. aeruginosa )) and yeast ( Candida albicans (C. albicans )) were stronger compared with the crude extracts. It was concluded that flavonoids-enriched extracts from R. setate x R. rugosa waste had the potential to be applied in functional food and pharmaceutical industries.

This work established an effective method for kale flavonoids enrichment by resins. Resin screening, adsorption kinetics and isotherms, dynamic adsorption and desorption tests were conducted to optimize the appropriate resins and enrichment conditions. The results showed that NKA-9 was the optimum resin. The best adsorption conditions were 0.2 mg/mL flavonoids concentration, 12.5 bed volume (BV) sample volume and 2 BV/h adsorption rate. The desorption conditions were 3 BV of 80% ethanol at 2 BV/h elution rate. Under these conditions, the product purity was 31.16%. The purified flavonoids extract was mainly comprised of Kaempferol-3-O-sophoroside-7-O-diglucoside, Kaempferol-3,7,4'-O-d-triglucoside, Kaempferol-3-O-feruloyl-sophoroside-7-O-d-glucoside, and Kaempferol-3-O-sinapoyl-sophoroside. Moreover, it presented higher scavenging ability against 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical and hydroxyl (OH) radical than crude extract. In conclusion, kale flavonoids can be well concentrated by NKA-9 resin and the purified flavonoids extract has good antioxidant activity which can be potentially applied in food, cosmetic or pharmacy industries.

The aim of this study was to determine the polyphenols, glucosinolates and ascorbic acid content as well as antioxidant activity of beverages on the base of apple juice with addition of frozen and freeze-dried curly kale leaves. Upon enrichment with frozen (13%) and freeze-dried curly kale (3%), the naturally cloudy apple juice was characterized by an increase in phenolic compounds by 2.7 and 3.3-times, accordingly. The antioxidant activity of beverages with the addition of curly kale ranged from 6.6 to 9.4μmol Trolox/mL. The obtained beverages were characterized glucosinolates content at 117.6-167.6mg/L and ascorbic acid content at 4,1-31,9mg/L. The results of sensory evaluation of colour, taste and consistency of apple juice and beverages with the addition of kale did not differ significantly prior to pasteurization (P≤0.05), whereas after the pasteurization the evaluated factors decreased significantly.
